EverHeard is private by design. Everything it hears is processed on your device. Your conversations and the sounds around you never leave your phone — there are no accounts and no servers that receive them.
EverHeard uses your device's microphone to do two things in real time: turn nearby speech into on-screen captions, and recognize environmental sounds (like a doorbell, alarm, or knock) to alert you.
Speech recognition and sound recognition run entirely on your phone using on-device models. Audio is processed live and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted for these features to work.
Your preferences (such as the name you choose to be alerted by and your haptic settings) and any recent transcript history are stored locally on your device only. You can remove all of it at any time by deleting the app.
The only time EverHeard uses the network is a one-time download of the speech-recognition model the first time you use captions. This downloads data to your device; no conversation data is ever uploaded. After that, captions and sound alerts work fully offline.
EverHeard requests microphone access, which is required for captions and sound alerts. You can revoke it any time in your device Settings; the app will simply stop listening.
EverHeard does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because nothing is collected or transmitted, no personal data leaves the device.
